Halloween Watchathon 2019 - Film #93

An interesting mumblecore horror/thriller hybrid. I enjoyed the SOV aesthetics and overall surrealism only I'k non too certain virtually how I felt otherwise.

This was really more than what I expected Toad Road to be similar when I watched it originally.
Information technology takes a very specific kind of person to gel with this weird Lynch-meets-Fessenden-meets-Tim-meets-Eric psychoscape. Lucky for me (and much to the chagrin of many of my friends who've refused to listen to my movie reccomendations ever since I rightfully declared Cannibal Holocaust a masterpiece), I'm exactly the kind of weirdo who LOVES this shit. I can't tell y'all it'due south perfectly made, I tin can't tell y'all it's fifty-fifty skilful, but for all you lot people out there who want something REALLY weird, you could do a whole lot worse than I Can See Y'all.

Totally vivid, if occasionally held back by the same things I'd count every bit strengths. Wisely chooses to merely provide a minimum of attention to the plot, which, while not weak, is simply... null. This is the slow burn down to end all slow burns, which is to say, it has a super singular tone. In an odd way, it nearly feels like a product of the internet age? Reminds me a lot of shows like Tim & Eric's Bedtime Stories, with the odd, unsettling tone that comes from slightly "off" performances, and it's too quite reminiscent of the more abstract, brusque form weird "horror" that y'all observe on YouTube, mostly trafficked by Wham Urban center (the folks behind This House Has People In…
If zilch else, it is definitely unique! Every bit a Glasses-Wearing-Person, I tin can capeesh the experimental touches with blurriness, disability to focus, muddied lenses, etc.. The music is corking, there are many highly disorienting moments, they certainly nailed the dissociative / psychedelic landscape... so what'south wrong with it? Well, if yous tin't stand slow and "pointless" movies, you will absolutely detest this. Because information technology's a little bit of both. The lack of overall cohesion and absenteeism of explanation is certainly annoying, but if you lot're patient and can pull through, the ending volition absolutely rip your face off
Kaleidoscopic imagery and a jagged, confusing audio design occasionally flare-up the seams of Graham Reznick's feature debut, I Tin can Run into Y'all, to set loose something nightmarish and frenzied. Starts off a flake shaky and has some truly atrocious acting, merely this ended up beingness a really evocative and baroque piece of work. There'south a lot more going on here than Lynch-worship; I found myself really connecting with the ideas about searching for the identity of others and declining to truly connect with them.
A very low upkeep and a very, very slow burn down⁠—I was barely paying attending for the first hour⁠—just the payoff is exceptionally creepy. Features two slap-up sequences from the blurred POV of a character who isn't wearing his spectacles: the beginning is subtly menacing, but the 2nd is fuckin scary.
I tend to review horror largely on the footing of how well it crafted a mood. I call up that'southward the hardest thing to construct and maintain in a movie, and the ones that do it well are rare. I Tin See You is an impressive descent into madness, a crescendo of tension and existential terror made flesh. Beautifully shot, well acted, brilliantly paced, all the while taking a familiar horror setting and turning it on its head, this is one of those crawly surprises you come across every now and then that you lot only want to tell everyone about.
If complete and total mindfuckery isn't your thing and so you'd exist best to keep articulate from this independently made shocker, otherwise savour watching a boring intriguing setup follow a completely fucked upward and mentally insane sound/video experience by the time it reaches its climax.

o jeito que desde o primeiro segundo voce sabe que ha algo de errado, voce sente. apenas por causa dessa atmosfera bizarra criada pelo comportamento nao natural daqueles personagens (o doug muito bem interpretado pelo incrivel duncan skiles), o som estranho east maravilhoso, a ediçao incomum, todo o visual... tudo pensado com cuidado pra te deixar desorientado. tudo graças ao graham reznick, o cara eh um genio. isso aqui eh um lance DELE.

I wasn't really expecting to similar this motion picture and I wasn't liking it until the last twenty minutes or so but now I sort of call back information technology's a masterpiece peradventure? I'll exist thinking nearly it probably for the rest of my life and then that'southward dandy. There were definitely pieces of this film that I don't think worked likewise but I think overall this movie is very successful at what'due south it trying to do, which in this case I call up is to sort of obfuscate what exactly that is. Gonna be haunted by the words "clarity" and "fantastic" for a while I think
